Holiday Train Show at Grand Central

The New York Transit Museum puts up a model train display at Grand Central during the holidays. In 2012, we didn't make it until January (whoops!). Here are a few snaps from that trip.

Happy Birthday, Little J!

A year ago today, this lovely, funny, smart couple brought a new little boy into this world. And he is quite possibly the most good-natured child I have ever encountered. Happy Birthday Little J! You are adored by everyone who meets you.

The Cow Takes Manhattan | Manhattan | March 2004

Back in 2004 I entered a photography contest (I believe it was for Time Out NY). The editors requested a photo series that "represented New York" and was "quintessential New York."  Now, I have no idea why "quintessential New York" translated to a cow wandering the streets of New York to me, but apparently, that's what came to mind. Needless to say, I didn't win the contest. Not even an honorable mention! Anyway, I can hardly believe that these were taken ten years ago. I love looking at the people in the shots and being reminded that there was a time, not so long ago, when the masses had no camera phones, no Instagram, no twitter and were left to just talk about it, with maybe a stack of photos developed at a drug store, this sighting of a lost cow, wandering the mean streets of Manhattan.

All shot on a Pentax K1000 on Kodak.

Jazz Age | Governors Island | August 2013

I was lucky enough to attend the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island not once but twice last year. Photos from the June 2013 Jazz Age Lawn Party can be found here, if you'd like to see.

Yatenga | French Bistro & Bar | Harlem

On the last day of school last year, we took in a ball game and then headed over to Yatenga, a great French bistro in the heart of Harlem. They have really great food and the owners are amazing.

Jazz Age Lawn Party | Governors Island | June 2013

We've gone to the Jazz Age Lawn Party every year since 2009. Hosted on Governors Island by Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, it's grown from a few diehards to a huge, huge soiree. It's really a blast. You might spy the amazing New York Times fashion photographer Bill Cunningham and the ever-beautiful artist and writer Beatrix Ost ("Everybody is beautiful!").  All shot on an old Pentax K1000 and lomo film.
